Media Release

7/10/2018

Montessori Academy of Owasso frequently records the participation of  students on film, still photography, audio and/or videotape for presentation in publicity, printed material, and by the news media.

If a parent would like their child to not be included in these photos or recordings, they can provide written notification to the school.

Withdrawing, Payment, and Admissions

6/28/2017

Enrollment
Montessori Academy of Owasso admits children of any race, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities available to children at the center.  We do not discriminate on the basis of race, national and ethnic origin in the administration of its education programs.

Admissions are based on availability of space, gender ratio in each class, and determination by the staff and parents that a child is ready.  Prospective parents and students are required to tour the center and meet with an administrator prior to enrollment.

Admissions
Enrolled families will be given the opportunity to enroll for the following year before enrollment is open to the public. These applications will be handed out to families in early spring. Open enrollment will begin 2 weeks after enrolled families receive their forms. A completed enrollment application will hold your child a placement in our school.

Payment
Unless paid in full at the beginning of the semester, all tuition payments must be made through automatic payment with our PaySimple system. Families will be required to submit a bank account number and routing number in order to make these payments.

Fees
  • $125 annual registration fee due with enrollment application
  • $190 annual supply fee due in May before school year begins
    • Both fees must be paid by June 1 to hold a child's place for the upcoming school year
  • $25/month for pre-k and elementary students who attend on extracurricular activity days

Withdrawing
Withdrawal of student for non-payment occurs immediately unless other arrangements have been made by the director.

In the event that your family feels our school is not a good fit for your child, you may withdraw and buy-out of your contract with written notice. Contract buy-outs are as follows:
  • If you pay monthly tuition, you will be charged 2 months' tuition upon written notification of withdrawal.
  • If you make two semester payments, you will be refunded your tuition for the remainder of the current semester, less 2 months' tuition upon written notification of withdrawal.

If student is withdrawn during the summer before the upcoming school year begins, families are responsible to pay tuition for the contracted rate for 60 days.

If a student would like to decrease the number of days he or she attends per week, written notification must be given to the office and the family will be responsible for 30 days' tuition at the current rate before decreasing to the lower tuition rate.

Assessments

6/28/2017

All students will receive a progress report at the end of each semester. For pre-k and elementary students, this report will show progression toward mastery of each subject. For toddler students, this report will show progression of social skills and basic academic topics.

In keeping with our belief in the value of early intervention for children with developmental difficulties, our staff is alert to normal developmental behavior.  We may express concerns to parents (in a private setting) about children who seem to differ from the norm.  This is our attempt to be of support and help to parents and it is considered our professional responsibility.  Staff members are not trained to diagnose special needs.  We simply attempt to point out a variance from the norm and recommend further assessment, appropriate programs, activities or other helpful information if parents desire.

Health Policy

6/28/2017

In order to maintain a healthy environment, we ask that you not bring children to school if they are showing signs of illness. A quick daily health check will be conducted by a teacher upon the arrival of your child.

If your child becomes ill during school hours, you will be contacted immediately and requested to pick him or her up. If we cannot reach either parent, we will call a contact listed on the child’s emergency form.

Please keep children home to rest if they show any of the following symptoms:

  • A temperature greater than 99 degrees (under arm) within the past 24 hours
  • Discharge from eyes, red/itchy  eyes
  • Stomach ache
  • Vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours
  • Any rash or skin lesion that blisters
  • Excessive signs of a cold, tiredness, sore throat, runny nose, sneezing, or coughing

Children cannot be admitted into the school with signs of a communicable disease.  Children must be free from a fever for at least 24 hours before returning to school.

School Reporting Policy
It is our intent to build a partnership with parents to help them provide the most suitable environment possible for children.  Toward this goal, we have many resources and referrals available to parents upon request.  It is important, also, for parents to be aware that state laws require any and all incidents of suspected child abuse or neglect to be reported to the appropriate agency.

Birthday Celebrations

6/28/2017

We love to celebrate birthdays at school! Students may bring a special treat for snack time on their birthday. Please do not bring items with icing. We suggest cookies, muffins, or brownies.
Items with icing will not be served and will be sent back home with the birthday student.

Discipline & Behavior Policy

6/28/2017

We follow the Love & Logic philosophy, which helps children internalize rules and become self-directed in their behavior.  This discipline method includes giving choices, problem solving, redirecting, and periods of “taking a break” when negative behavior is aggressive or consistent.  Our first choice will always be redirection.

We request that parents do not spank their children in the school.  We work with children to help them find alternatives to responding physically in stressful situations and strive to make the school a safe place where hitting and other aggressive expressions are not acceptable.

Occasionally, Montessori Academy of Owasso staff must dismiss a child from the school due to failure to adjust or behavioral needs which our staff cannot meet.  When this is the case, our staff will try to suggest other programs or alternatives for the parents.

Nap & Toilet Training

6/28/2017

Nap
A nap mat is provided by the school for students in the pre-primary class. Students under the age of 3 will have a 60 minute nap period after lunch each day. If your child sleeps with a small blanket, a pacifier or a small special stuffed animal or lovey, please place those in your child’s backpack.

Toilet Training
If your child is in the process of toilet training, at least two/three pairs of underwear and pants will need to be brought to school. Our approach to toilet training is one of positive reinforcement and encouragement.  Children are not pushed or shamed into using the toilet.  By the age of 2.5 – 3 years of age, we find most children no longer require diapers and are using the toilet regularly. *students must be fully toilet trained before advancing past our toddler classrooms*

Extreme Weather

6/28/2017

Students will be taken outside every day that the weather permits.  We will not go outside if there is precipitation or if the temperature is below 45 degrees or above 95 degrees.

If the Owasso Public School District is closed due to snow, ice or other inclement weather, we will also be closed.  If the public school district does not close schools due to inclement weather, you may assume that we are also open.  Likewise, if the public schools call for schools to close early due to inclement weather, we will also close early.

Who is Allowed to Pick-Up My Child?
Your child will be released only to parents and persons for whom we have written authorization. Staff unfamiliar with any person picking up a child may stop to check the child’s file and see the person’s I.D. Please do not call us on the phone to give authorization for a pick-up. We must have authorization in writing.

We cannot, by law, refuse a parent access to his/her child without a court order instructing us to do so. Please provide the office with a copy of a court order if you are instructing us not to release your child to his/her other parent.
